BODEGAS LAN

LAN A Mano

Viticulture and craftsmanship come together to give origin to this daring wine, which is sourced from carefully hand-selected vines of very low production located in the El Rincón parcel.

A hand-made wine, a limited edition that is a faithful reflection of the terroir that it comes from.

GRAPE VARIETIES: 87% Tempranillo, 9% Graciano and 4% Mazuelo from a selection of 45 to 60 year old vines coming from “El Rincón” plot.

VINEYARDS: “Pago El Rincón” – located in the southern part of our “Viña Lanciano” estate (El Cortijo – Rioja Alta) next to the “El Rincón” mountain. 491 metres altitude with gently sloping terrain. North-South facing with a slight incline towards the north-west – south-west. Traditional Rioja bush vines with three arms, each with five spurs of two buds in length. Yield of 3,500 kg/ha.

WINEMAKING: The grapes were hand-harvested in small crates and then selected by bunch and berry on sorting tables so that only grapes in perfect conditions of health and ripeness are allowed to continue to the next phase of vinification. Malolactic fermentation in new French oak barrels, finishing in the following spring. During the period between alcoholic fermentation and malolactic fermentation, the lees were stirred weekly to ensure a fuller mouth feel, as well as a silkier, more approachable wine.

AGEING: Aged for 9 months in new French oak from the forests of Jupille and Tronçaise, followed by 4 months in new Caucasian oak barrels.

TASTING NOTES: Deep garnet red appearance. On the nose a range of aromas of black fruit blackberry, blueberry, and ripe plum are wrapped in spicy notes of clove and cinnamon. On the palate it is powerful, broad and structured, with smooth tannins that blend with the fruity aromas and minerality that reflect the essence of our Viña Lanciano Estate. It is a wine of great personality and structure with an enjoyably long finish.

LAN Gran Reserva

Crafted from vines of more than 40 years of age, our LAN Gran Reserva spent 28 months in hybrid American and French oak barrels, followed by a minimum of 36 months of rounding in the bottle in our cellar. This is our way of paying homage to the passage of time, patience and expertise. Elegant and subtle, it fully expresses the wisdom bequeathed by time.

GRAPE VARIETIES: 97% Tempranillo, 3% Mazuelo

VINEYARDS: 97% Tempranillo from a selection of the best grapes coming from 30 year-old, low yielding bush vines in Haro, Villalba, and Foncea (Rioja Alta) and 3% Mazuelo from Cenicero (Rioja Alta).

WINEMAKING: Destemmed and fermented in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature of 30ºC. The wine was then macerated for 3 weeks, over-pumping the must daily to favor higher extraction of color and aromas.

AGEING: Aged 28 months in hybrid American and French oak barrels, followed by a minimum of 36 months of rounding in the bottle in our cellar

TASTING NOTES: Intense deep red-garnet with a ruby trim. In the nose is intense with black ripe fruit, fig and a touch of raisins all mixed with intense spicy and smoky notes. In the palate is harmonious, balanced with gentle tannins that allowed for a long aftertaste that strengthens the ripe fruit and spices aromas.

LAN Crianza

Our most famous wine, the one that best reflects our innovations in ageing, as we started to use hybrid oak barrels (with French oak bases and American oak staves) for LAN Crianza as long as two decades ago, contributing to its unmistakeable character.

GRAPE VARIETIES: 93% Tempranillo, 2% Mazuelo, 5% Garnacha.

VINEYARDS: Selected from 10 to 20 year-old vines from our long-standing suppliers in the Rioja Alta and Rioja Alavesa subzones. Sloped plots of calcareous-clay soils with good drainage and sun exposure.

WINEMAKING: Traditional winemaking, destalking – crushing. Fermentation in stainless steel tanks. 15 days’ maceration, with continuous pumping-over to optimise colour extraction.

AGEING: Aged for 14 months in combined American and French oak barrels followed by 9 months of rounding in the bottle prior to release.

TASTING NOTES: Intense red cherry colour. Aromas of red fruits (strawberry, raspberry) and peach. Notes of pastry framed by fine nuances of vanilla and toffee and a slightly touch of cinnamon. Balanced on the palate, it has a long lasting and satisfying finish.
